Description

Warm and comforting apple cinnamon oatmeal, perfect for a cozy breakfast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 apple, peeled and finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon butter or vegan margarine
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • pinch ground ginger or nutmeg, optional
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup rolled oats, large flake
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup, or other sugar or sweetener
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Add apples and butter to a medium saucepan. Cook over medium-high heat until apples are tender-crisp.
  2. Stir in cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Cook 1 minute.
  3. Add water and oats and stir until combined. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce to medium-low and cook, stirring often, for 10 to 12 minutes, until desired tenderness is reached.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in maple syrup or other sweetener and vanilla. Adjust sweetness and salt to taste.
  5. Serve with a splash of milk if desired.

Notes

  • Adjust sweetness to your preference.
  • Use any type of apple you like.
  • For a creamier oatmeal, use milk instead of water.
