- 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 pound crab meat
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup chopped onion
- 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
- 1/2 cup chopped celery
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 cups chicken broth
- 1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained
- 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: Hot sauce to taste
Instructions
- Melt butter in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add onion, bell pepper, and celery. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in garlic, Cajun seasoning, and smoked paprika. Cook for 1 minute more.
- Pour in chicken broth and diced tomatoes. Bring to a simmer.
- Add shrimp and crab meat. Cook until shrimp is pink and crab is heated through, about 5-7 minutes.
- Season with salt, pepper, and hot sauce (if using).
- Serve hot.
Notes
- You can add other seafood such as sausage or crawfish.
- Adjust the amount of Cajun seasoning to your preference.
- For a thicker gumbo, simmer for a longer time to reduce the liquid.
