- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
- 1 (4 oz) can diced green chilies
- 2 tbsp chili powder
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1/2 tsp oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional toppings: shredded cheese, sour cream, chopped onions
Instructions
- Brown ground beef in a large pot over medium-high heat. Drain excess fat.
- Add onion and bell pepper. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in garlic, chili powder, cumin, and oregano. Cook for 1 minute.
- Add crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, and green chilies. Bring to a simmer.
- Reduce heat and simmer for at least 30 minutes, or up to 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve hot with your favorite toppings.
Notes
- For a spicier chili, add a pinch of cayenne pepper.
- You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken.
- Chili can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
